Loading dock turntable maximises space at award-winning office building in Melbourne

Location
Melbourne, Australia

The 405 Bourke Street Melbourne site was a challenging Tier 1 site with restricted access. By installing a truck turntable onsite, we were able to overcome many of the challenges posed by limited space. In addition, the turntable allowed our client to increase efficiency—thereby saving time and money.

For the second year in a row, “The Lantern” has won the esteemed Sir Osborn McCutcheon Award for Commercial Architecture. Presented by the Victorian Australian Institute of Architects, the Woods Bagot design at 405 Bourke Street Melbourne CBD was praised for overcoming numerous challenges to artfully create Australia’s best post-COVID office building. Developed by Brookfield Properties and constructed by Multiplex, the site is shoehorned between two residential buildings, an existing carpark and an historical façade. As such, the judged commended the team for “creating a perfect floorplate within an imperfect site.” They further stated that the building provided “a beautiful resolution to the challenges… with a precise economy of structure, energy efficient services and deftness in material craft.” Space was one of the foremost challenges. As with all sites in the central business district, each spare metre is invaluable. By using Australian Turntables, the building team was able to reduce the loading dock’s required area, creating more room to work with onsite.

Client Testimonial

At Multiplex, we were very impressed with how smoothly the Australian Turntables team installed the HTT at 405 Bourke Street Melbourne. The deadline was very tight, and we had our doubts. However, through thorough planning, the turntable was delivered and completed on time and as planned.

We recognize and appreciate Australian Turntables’ quality and efficiency on site. This was a fantastic team effort that executed a quality plan, high focus, and great work ethic throughout the installation process.

We thank Australian Turntables for setting such a high standard with the best turntables in the world.
