19MT CONSTRUCTION TURNTABLE FOR THE NEW SYDNEY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Australian Turntables embarked on a significant project in Randwick, Sydney, for the construction of a large hospital on a major road within a densely populated area. This case study highlights our approach and execution in overcoming the unique logistical challenges presented by the project’s location and constraints..

THE CHALLENGE

The project’s main difficulty lay in the site’s limited space, which prohibited the typical maneuvering of a semi-trailer or its reversal onto the public road. The construction plan spanned over two years,
needing to support the heavy and frequent delivery loads essential for the hospital’s construction.
Additionally, our client’s commitment with workers’ safety and wellbeing demanded for an innovative approach to site traffic management and risk control.

OUR SOLUTION

To address these challenges, we designed and installed a 19-metre truck turntable. This was to be followed by the removal of the large turntable and the installation of a smaller, 9-metre turntable for the subsequent 6 months.

We provided not only a solution to spatial constraints but also helped significantly boost efficiencies since our standard construction turntables can increase site productivity by at least 75%.

This installation played a pivotal role in managing the delivery and unloading of construction materials, such as structural steel and precast concrete, directly from semi-trailers.
