What is a car turntable?

A car turntable is a motorised platform that rotates vehicles, enabling you to enter and exit your parking space without needing to reverse. This feature is particularly beneficial for homes with limited space or those situated in busy areas. By always allowing for forward movement, car turntables significantly enhance safety and ease of use.

A four-in-one solution:

  1. Access and exit your spaces safely
  2. Optimise your space
  3. Defy design challenges including compliance requirements
  4. Increase the value of your home

What is the best vehicle turntable for me?

Australian Turntables have a team that has been helping customers determine the appropriate turntable for over 40 years.

Our approach is based on selecting the right size & finish, offering the best advice on location & explaining the pros & cons of why a turntable might be suitable or maybe it doesn’t work for a particular project.

To choose a turntable, you must consider the designated space and use of the turntable, as well as the vehicles it will hold. Entry & exiting the turntable also matters and can affect the size or positioning that we select.

CTX:

Australia’s Favorite Car Turntable. The CTX models combine everyday practicality with exceptional safety, making them perfect for tight spaces and busy areas.

Featuring a steel deck installed flush with your driveway, garage, or space design, this model is fully customisable to match your desired look and finish. Specified for residential use only, it can accommodate up to two vehicles with diameters ranging from 4 meters to 6.5 meters. Installation is suitable for garages, driveways, and carports, requiring civil work.

CTX-PR:

Our Paver Riser Turntable model is ideal for ensuring a smooth blend  with your outdoor design.

Experience the same high performance as our CTX models, but with a paver riser option. The PR series includes a 100mm rebate to accommodate various infill materials such as concrete, pavers, tiles, or exposed aggregate.

SPINSY ON-SURFACE:

A surface mountable turntable that doesn’t require any type of civil work. The design adapts to multiple surfaces, offering the same benefits of a traditional turntable, more simply and efficiently in terms of installation.

How many cars can a turntable fit?

Depending on its diameter and capacity, a turntable can fit up to two cars.

What is the load capacity of a car turntable?

At Australian Turntables, we provide operating weight capacities that vary from 3000kg for Spinsy, 4000 Kg for the compact CTX with single car accommodation & up to 8000 Kg for the larger CTX+ 2 car units.

*We can also custom engineer larger weight capacities according to your project requirements.

How much room do I need to install a turntable?

It is recommended that you have a clearance zone around your turntable. This space is required as vehicles can overhang the turntable edge. We recommend that you allow at least 600mm more than your longest car length. This allows for some misalignment when parking on the turntable platform. If adequate clearance is not available, then anti-collision sensors can be included.

What extra safety features are available for car turntables?

  • Anti-collision system: A sensor system that will stop the rotation in case of a possible collision with close walls, columns or other cars. This system can be designed and supplied in spaces or projects where there is a greater risk of collision during rotation. Each project is different, so these systems are designed on a case by case basis. If collisions with people might be a possibility, then a higher-level safety system will be required.
  • Emergency stop: An emergency stop button can be  mounted on the control panel or other locations in case of danger due to possible collision or other risk situations.

How does the turntable operate?

The turntable is operated via a remote control or by the main control panel toggle switch. As standard, the operation is a hold to run mode so in the case of a potential issue, releasing the button will automatically stop the turntable. The turntables are bi-directional.

What are the flooring and finishing options?

We have a range of standard options to choose from as well as an inhouse design & engineering team for any bespoke requirements.

Some of the standard options are:

  • Standard checker plate using galvanised steel.
  • Paver riser version: allows you to customise your surface to a variety of options such as concrete, pavers, wood, etc.
  • 316 stainless steel: can be included to help with corrosive environments or even when a polished concrete floor surface is required.

The list here is endless as we can accommodate all types of finishes required.

How much does a car turntable cost?

Selecting and designing a car or residential turntable is not a cookie-cutter exercise. Otherwise, you risk ending up with a product with little durability or in need of repeated repairs with high costs.

The price of the turntable will depend on:

  • Existing space & surface
  • Use conditions
  • Exposure to elements
  • Safety features like sensors
  • Custom finishing
  • Tech additions: custom controllers, electric charging ports, etc.

Who installs Australian Turntables?

Our team of qualified installers will deliver & install your CTX model turntable. We are the only company who have specialised installation and service crews all over Australia. With full teams in Melbourne & Sydney, and smaller crews in all other capital cities, we can install, maintain & service your turntable wherever you are.

For Spinsy, this is up to you. Spinsy was designed for self-install by a competent person with average skills and a few tools. Or we can do it for you.

How about site preparation and civil work?

For new builds, the site preparation is typically completed by the builder/contractor. We have suggested specifications for preparing the site, however as each site varies, we recommend getting an engineer to confirm the requirements.  A great resource is this YouTube video as it explains a lot of the requirements in an easy-to-understand format.

For retrofit units where a turntable is required to be installed into an existing driveway or garage, Australian turntables has a network of trades to help any homeowner complete the project with minimum fuss.

For Spinsy on-surface, no civil work is required.

What is the recommended maintenance schedule for a vehicle turntable?

At least one service per year.

Can I perform maintenance on my vehicle turntable, or should I hire professionals?

People who have some mechanical knowledge can maintain it themselves, but it is important to take key safety precautions to avoid injuries or accidents.

Are there warranties or service plans available for vehicle turntables?

Our turntables are backed by our 2-year warranty on all moving parts and a 10-year warranty on the structure*. If you engage in an annual service, conducted by Australian Turntables, your turntable will continue to operate as good as the day it was installed. The annual services can be included in your initial purchase to lock in current service rates. We also offer extended warranties options that can cover all parts & labour for extra peace of mind.

All of our designs include high-quality and long-lasting materials that are suitable for recycling at the end of their life span.

Being an Australian manufacturer that is concerned about our environmental impact, we choose local suppliers including Australian-made steel & galvanising which greatly extends the life of the product. Sourcing locally also reduces our carbon footprint.
