Case Study:

Bendigo Heritage:
Custom-Engineered Platform for
Safer and More Efficient
Tram Transfers

Challenge: Bendigo Heritage Tramways needed a safe and efficient method to transfer trams for maintenance and relocation, overcoming the limitations of traditional lifting methods.

Solution: Australian Turntables designed and built a custom “Tramsporter” platform. This platform allows for secure loading and maneuvering of trams using integrated securing hardware. The Tramsporter is then precisely positioned at the unloading location, where lifting hoists, spaced strategically (2050mm), lift the tram from the platform. The platform is then driven out from underneath, allowing the tram to be safely lowered onto the rails.

RESULTS

Custom-Engineered Solution:

The platform was specifically designed to accommodate the weight (20,000kg distributed over 8 wheels, representing a W class tram) and operational requirements of Bendigo Heritage Tramways.

Secure tram loading and unloading minimize the risk of damage and accidents.
